Damper Swtich Not Activating Properly

Post by CEBirnley »

Manual climate controlled 1998 V70 EFI only

When turning the switch on the dash, I am not hearing/feeling the dampers change the direction from which the air is flowing. I believe this means that the switch that causes the dampers to activate is no longer working.

Any thoughts on my situation?

MCC doesn't have damper motors.

I have never seen a MCC unit on a P80, but from what I recall from reading posts over the years is that the cable operating the flaps can get stiff and pull off the unit under the dash. I can't recall from memory if the arms are metal or plastic (I think plastic) but they may have broken or jammed.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Neil.

MCC on late 1998 is cable controlled air temperature, left and right, and motor damper controlled air distribution and fresh/recirculated air

If you get only fixed air temp after warmup, the cables probably popped off

I dont think I am explaining “things” correctly. Essentially I only have air coming out through the defroster area and dash vents. I am getting no air to the floor, regardless of where I place the switch. I think my system is MCC as I dont have temps listed, only the blue and red colors on the temp controller.

Thank you all for your input and hopefully this clarified my issue.

It’s we who are confused , you were clear.

You do have dampers, not cables controlling air flow on your 1998 if it is like mine.

Pull the driver kick panel down and see if you are getting any noise from the motors on the sides of the white climate unti. Look up and see if the linkages are in place.
