In my '94 855 I am having a problem starting/idling it cold. After starting the RPMs struggle at around 100-200 and then it'll finally kick up to the propper idle at 850 RPM. If I give it any gas it will struggle. It smells like it's running rich, too. However, once warm, I can easily back it out of the driveway and it runs fine.
I checked the codes and it's 1-1-1 all-clear. Any ideas on what I can check?
Iradic RPMs until warm

How is your air filter, fuel line + filter. Have you run any STP Fuel Treatment lately (or similar)? Might be water in the tank. Getting fuel pressure at the rail when car's cold and off?

Also check your IAC. Another area to concider is the vacume lines - possible clogs or leaks.

Wow I'm surprised it didn't set an O2 code...
Anyway, how many things have you had to do to your 850s lately
? At least you're reducing the number of things that can go wrong moving forward

yeah, that one had us both puzzled as well, but swaped em out (watched him do it) and it certainly did fix the problem.matthew1 wrote:Wow I'm surprised it didn't set an O2 code...
I have 2 850s, so I actually have twice the problems as most people :p Most of my previous problems were with the 93 854 which has since been running extra-great. This was a problem with the 94 855 (I like the wagon and the sedan both for different reasons).matthew1 wrote: Anyway, how many things have you had to do to your 850s lately? Although I love my volvos to death, I am sad to report that I'm looking at probably selling both and getting an 05 Tundra/Tacoma or 05 Titan/Armada as a replacement. the Endurance V8 is looking really hot lately, and Toyota released a double-cab long-bed configuration that's rather tempting. Who knows, maybe I'll keep one of the volvos... question is: which one?
