Door Lock Failure, 2000 V70 SE

Post by oldredwheels »

Hi Guys,

Got a wierd one. The passenger door appears to be locked but isn't. All the visible signs and sounds are right, key fob actuates, all lock knobs go down and up, everything the same until you pull the handle and the door opens (when apparently locked). The alarm goes off, the whole nine yards.....but the door isn't locked.

Before I tear off the panel and look at the lock mechanism and electric actuator, any ideas or comments? I suspect its either one or the other....like a pin is stuck or broken.

thanks,

oldredwheels.

If the lock pops up and down, the arm BROKE inside the door so start removing it

My vote is for REPL(Red Evil Plastic Lever) inside the actuator as described here on Volvospeed:

http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.ph ... opic=42326

I had the identical symptoms as your car, the lock knob went up and down each time the lock button was pushed but the door itself failed to lock. However the previous owner of my car had already taken the car to the Volvo dealer(they quoted $270 for new actuator with labor) for the diagnosis.

In my case, a new actuator solved my problem($95 for a factory Volvo actuator from fcpgroton).

thanks guys,

I'm going ahead with a new actuator. I figure, take the door apart once and fix it for good. 95K miles, it'll break again....

any issues with the hardware holding the door panel on, should I buy any loose parts when I buy the actuator?

You'll probably want a few door clips--I keep 'em on my parts shelf, always break at least one any time I pull the door panel off (turns out my shop does the same  )

Guess you didn't read the entire post, you need a NEW doorlock/actuator assembly
