CV axle issues

CV axle issues

Mt driver's front outer CV boot tore on me, I have been expecting this for awhile now. I heard that Volvo axles are the only way to go, so I got a replacement from the pick n pull yard, they had the same year and model V70 as me there. I had a heck of a time getting the axle out of the donor car. My old axle came out quite easily, but the replacement one is hard going in, it seems to be most of the way, but the last 1/4" is not going in. I tried pulling it out and it's also stuck. Also, this replacement axle I got is not a Volvo OEM one. My question is anybody had issues with aftermarket axles getting stuck, or not seating fully in the transmission?

Yes!! Try and get it back out and swap the spring retaining clip from the original with the aftermarket one. They are often too large or badly made and no rounded edges so tend to bind.

If the CV boot on the original is not too bad, worth keeping it and getting a new CV boot and fixing it.

I was planning on changing the boot. I caught it right away. I'll try to yank this one out, might have to jack it up higher to get larger pry bar in there. I think I'll just order a replacement boot and reinstall my old shaft.

You can buy the spring clip from Volvo but not cheap.

Try to get GKN boots if you can.

I replaced mine outer CV with Meyle HD one. Been working fine on myself.

All I am seeing is Doorman boots, that's probably what I will end up going with.

No idea who makes them for Dorman. The rubber material is the issue with these as it is with many other rubber parts.

Availability in Canada is the issue. Autopartsway do them in Canada for the outer boot. Never use Empi!!

To get the driveshaft removed easily place a chisel between the cv housing and transmission. One swift hit on the chisel and it pops out easily. Without this trick I’ve suffered removing them
