Massive Oil Leak

I’ll guess you didn’t quite seat the cam sensor reluctor wheel on the VVT cam and it’s hitting the sensor. Does it sound like the worlds loudest mouse chewing on stuff?

A very close friend of mine did this once on a 1999 V70 T5 M56 in Nautic Blue

Ok, you removed the reluctor, the little metal cup that bolts to the back of the cam, and found that it seems to sit right in many positions but only goes in one way correctly. It will sit nice amd flush and square with respect to the cylinder head when right

The cap, I did right, am sure. My bad, it should ONLY fit one way.

I would go ahead and pull that engine mount back off, and retrace your steps back toward to the far exhaust cam seal, then play with the reluctor wheel. Just for fun

from the maintenance you listed, I don't see what else could make the described noise.

Retracing is a good approach, could very well be the motor mount itself.
WHen I lost a coil the engine made a knocking noise under load ( on 4 cyls) , turned out to be the motor mount.
The noise went away when the coil was replaced.

If you hear metal to metal type grinding noise when you started the car you should also hear something when turning the engine over manually. Take the spark plugs out to make it easier to turn over the engine manually from the crank pulley nut and with helper listen carefully for the sound, you should at least be able to pinpoint where the sound is coming from.
