Engine Serial D5244T4 too long?

Post by sturmtiger »

Hey there,
I'm Alex, 35, living in the middle of nowhere in Germany. And at first I'm sorry for my poor English...
I'm registered here, because the German forum's are a little bit.... "special"...
And after what I've already read here, I like you very much.

So my questions is about my XC90 D5244T4, 185hp, MY07, with the TF80SC-AWD and around 212.000kms.

Bought it in 2020 first hand from the owner's of a pharmacy with 185.000km, and only serviced by Volvo except the last service which was made by a normal garage.

And even with that, it came with all problems: Valve Body of the gearbox worn, Haldex not working, Engine mountings worn, etc.
In the meanwhile I fixed everything. Also the previous owner told me - and it's also noticed in the checkbook - that the car got a new engine in 2012. But after after I saw all the "work" they've done (also got a clogged diesel filter, the poorly refitted trailer hitch - done by Volvo, and some more stuff), I'm careful about what's written in there. It's not much more than a date, "Replacement engine fittet", and autograph and a stamp of the garage.

Because of that I want to change the timing belt, auxiliary belt, and the tensioner of the auxiliary belt.

In Vida I found out, that there are two differen tensioners. Engine -> 349808 and 349808 ->

So I was looking for my engine serial, but it hat 7 digits (on the timing belt cover, and what's on the back of the engine seems to be identical. On the back of the engine I can only read the first digit's, as the remaining ones are covered by a cooler pipe...)

Maybe you can help me with this, as I don't think Volvo build 9000000+ D5-Engine's...

I assume the "F9" may stand for "Replacement Engine" or "Refurbished Engine", but I found nothing about it. Wether on google nor in Vida.

Thanks alot in advance!

Much greetings from Germany!

Alex

- Scandix is in Germany and you may want to ask them regarding your diesel engine:
https://skandix.de/en/

- Whatever you do, stay with main names such as Continental timing belt, INA pulleys etc.

- I assume diesel engine design is similar to gasoline engine.

Thanks for the tips!
I was thinking about driving to the next volvo dealer and ask for help, but unfortunately they're not that good. The first one is specialised on Ford and Volvo isn't much more than a label on the roof there, and the other one in my area isn't even interested in selling spare parts.

Honestly I haven't thought about asking Skandix. I wrote an email and let you know what they say.

Most parts I gathered in the meanwhile in the shopping cart are INA.

Thanks again!

Here's the update:

Skandix told me, that F9136094 is the SERIEL NO. of the Engine, but NOT the "Engine No.".
It should be on the back of the engine.

10 minutes ago I crawled in the engine bay with a torch and my phone and took a photo of what's engraved:
D5244T and the same No.: F9136094.

I guess I have to visit a dealer then. But it's hard to find a good one.

My aunt was last week at the nearest one with her '14 XC60. They changed the EGR-Valve for ~800€, let her pay for adding coolant (1.71€ !) as they haven't filled up enough after the repair, and a day later MIL came back (and even more sh*t after I took a look in the car with Vida, but that's too much for my bad English). That's why I have trust issues to the Dealers in my area...

Here's an update, if ever someone will have the same problem:

Long story short: I was at another - better - Volvo dealer, who was willing to help me. He gave me the engine CONTRUCTION number (?) from my data card. Which has 6 digits and is at least in the range of the possible numbers. So I hope it's the right one for getting spare parts if needed.

He also said (combined VW and Volvo dealer), at some VW's - if they get replacement engines - the field on the new engine is empty and they have to copy the engine number from the old to the new one.

But he couldn't answer me how it's made at Volvo.
