bad cabin vibrations

Post by volvomileage »

hello !

congrats for maintaining this great site

i have a volvo 850 sedan with approx 180 k miles
the car has a new rad a new starter new a/c evap new idle control valve, flame trap and hoses freshly changed, new fuel pump relay new fuel pump and runs only on synthetic oil, cnanged every 3000 miles or so with of course a volvo oem oil filter, the top engine mount is freshly changed, but the car strongly vibrates in the cabin either on idle and on drive, and this is intermitent, a general tune up was done not too long ago wich included new cap an rotor, new plugs and brand new t belt, i just cant figure out how to smoothen the vibration wich sound like a buzz in the cabin, other than those vibes the car even for this mileage drives great ! the accel is great the kickdown is amazing...

Go through your lower motor mounts - Particularly the one the one under the harmonic balancer on the passenger's side of the car.

My son's mount at that location had actually separated. It is a fairly easy fix if it is bad. I understand that the other front and rear mounts are a little tougher (I have not yet had to do them but I think I'm close on the '94) but they could be the problem as well.

What brand is the top engine mount? The polyeurthene one is known to be significantly stiffer.

thaks for the replies..

i actually replaced the donut type bushing in the mount , with an oem bushing, didnt change a thing, but i admit that changing the lower mount by the left wheel and t belt is a good idea,

Check the mount on the firewall too...the donut mount's arm extends back to it. If this is bad then you'll feel it right up to where you grab the steering wheel.
