abscate, you are correct in that this mechanic does have one of those cameras (Borescope) you spoke of. This mechanic I have only used in emergencies in the past as his labor rates are high but he is right around the corner. I think he is trying to scare me when he said "I would hate to have your car catch on fire". Great!

br0dy519, which is it? Under the rear bench seat or in the trunk area? Need to confirm. Maybe after viewing "Jonesg" video that will tell me for sure.

jonesg, after following your good instructions, and clean up that area, should I turn on the engine again to see where the actual leak is coming from? Or maybe it will be obvious. You mentioned, "very likely the fuel pump top plate". That doesn't sound like an EVAP hose or a fuel supply line. Just wondering which part(s) I will be JB Welding. That video looks like a lot of stuff to remove. I wished I lived closer to the beautiful state of Maine and I would come up and see you.
DRive the car for 5 minutes, if you smell gas its good indication you will find gas pooled on the pump cover plate.

disconnect battery before starting this procedure, you test the repair by driving after the repair, no more smell.
If you connect the battery with the seat out you're gonna get the SRS warning that you can't turn off without a decent code reader.
the seatbelts are tied into the airbag system, if the circuit is unplugged and you key on, you get the airbag fault code.
Just don't do it and you won't have a problem, the fuel pump is a well known problem that is easily fixed.

I made that mistake and had to spend money for a scanner that could erase the SRS fault. Dealer wanted $150 just to turn it off.

Come on up to maine, we don't do anything but work on the volvo in our retirement, work on the boat, then the motor bicycle, then the volvo again... we'll leave the light on for ya.

Isn’t BOAT an acronym for “Bust Out Another Thousand”?

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

boaters learn to scale down,
aluminum hulls outlive glass and are lighter, cheaper to maintain and need less power.
Old car, old boat, old snowmobile, buy em cheap and fix em up.

June, for what year and model Volvo were you able to receive that free recall?
I searched up yesterday on Volvo's recall site with my VIN number and got nothing on my P2.
