That is bad news. Not horrible but more work than you hoped I'm sure.

White smoke can also be caused by brake fluid. Can the coolant in the turbo actually get into the turbo itself?

Never removed a turbo so first is always interesting. Just hoping the engine and transmission are okay. The reason for draining the coolant is factory recommends the procedure. Starts at 9:50 why it should be done. Coolant is not suppose to not get into the turbo.

Poor Elliot…all that work to replace the turbo and his stem seals are shot…..YouTube mechanic indeed

Maybe if I just disconnect the turbo the coolant will stay in?

The most expensive part of my turbo failure was the tow home, at 3x the parts cost. The turbo gave me a solid 150 miles warning, but unfortunately I was 190 miles from home plus I didn’t know the dentist drill whine was abnormal. It turns out without this forum I know nothing about how my car works!

So you can always try abscates used unit, and later if you still need to you can buy the cartridge! Best of both worlds?

The Kat was a generous near donation from another forum member due to massive fuel system rust above the rear subframe. She is a fully loaded , sunroof, power seats, wood interior, AWD in 426 silver and charcoal leather.

The day after I finished all the refurb work….the fuel pump died and I got to practice my axle dropping skills again in the driveway.

That was a ton of work. Nice to have a shop or neighborhood where one can put the car on stands.

One major hurdle so the when the mechanical is done the interior will be suitable for comfortable driving. The glue for the fabric on the door panel as I mentioned before is impossible to remove. Anything it come in contact with is also near impossible to remove. It's also impossible to stretch and glue any single piece of fabric to the contours of the door card. The leather is two pieces sowed in order to fit the curvature of the door card.
