Passenger Axle Seals - 04 XC70

Post by br0dy519 »

Hi guys.

Why do I do jobs on Sundays? I'm doing the passenger side balljoint, wheel bearing, and CV axle today. The CV axle came out so easily I was surprised. Problem is it took three seals/orings with it it looks like. When I look inside the bevel gear, it looks like there are two wells for the two smaller seals. Any idea on these? I'm booting up VIDA now but if someone has a quick answer it would be great. Need the vehicle tomorrow  wonder how screwed I am

Upon closer inspection.. it looks like it may be one seal teared to bits. The one piece is a big circular spring

Oh you look to be right abscate. Isn’t this seal very dodgy to replace. I’ll look into it. Thank you.

Correct P/N : 9143885 , Corteco 1034061 available at 1/4 cost of the Volvo P/N.

abscate's post is at the rear diff. I was replacing the front passenger CV when it happened, so here is the diagram and correct number for the front. This guide helped me : https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/angle-gear-leak-fix/

VIDA repair instructions show the job is an easy 2 minute fix. Pry old one out with screwdriver. Grease and set new one in. Easy peasy. Car will be back on the road Tuesday as long as I can source the seal locally.

Thanks!
