2005 S60 BiFuel MM ETM priblem

Post by dikidera »

I have a 2005 S60 with Magnetti Marelli ETM. How can I be sure I have one of the affected models? I have a brand new Bosch MAF(several months old), so I know it's perfectly fine and working.

But I do have a few issues which I am unsure if I should interpret as a failing ETM or just a few vacuum leaks. Basically when driving the car, and I am at a high speed and press the brakes when reaching a stop, the RPMs fall well below 700(750 is my idle) and in fact I dare say they drop to 500RPM and then after a second or two when I am done braking and have stopped, it goes back to 750.
I have also noticed some RPM hunting, but not a huge amount, but the engine noise gives it away more than the needle does.
And finally, sometimes, I am not sure if I am catching the gearbox in the middle of changing gears, but there is def slight hesitation when pressing the accelerator, like a kick to the gearbox.

Hi, Over the years I've needed to clean or replace the MAF sensor multiple times, so, even though yours is only a few months old i'd start out by cleaning it. BTW I have have good luck with the Xmodex replacement etm, four years and 50,000 miles...

The xemodex thingy costs pretty much as volvo would offer it, especially since they are US based and there is also a hefty 20% VAT on their price. If this was around $200 I might have considered it.

XeMODeX is Canadian, although I'd guess their US sales are greater than their Canadian sales.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Doesn't change anything though, still on the America(s)n continent. Anyway, I am curious if my description of the symptoms sound similar to a failing ETM?

Your 2005 would have a Bosch Electronic Throttle Actuator, not the ETM covered in this forum. It doesn’t fail the same way and is much more reliable

Not bosch though, it's definitely marked Magnetti Marelli.
