Hello
My battery died, after replacing I can’t start the car, and on display is “ car prevented to start” message . When I checked with vida under immobilizer I have this reading. Does car lost memory of key and need to be programmed by volvo dealer? Is there any other option? Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi,
Gee i wish i could help here i see nobody replied to this question yet. Unfortunately i don't have that much experience with Volvos yet i am only getting there little by little as i play around with this and that.
The work is hard though so i tend to complain about the car a lot, but it's partly because i am older now and everything is harder to do. If i was younger i would probably have no problems fixing stuff as i always did most of my own work. I mean, i even rebuilt my Pontiac engine (i think it was a 390 cubic inch v8) myself in the basement, including a manual valve job. These days i would never even think about doing such a thing, on any car.
For this problem of yours though it looks like you are going to have to consult with an expert on these cars.

I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

If you don't get good reply in another day, post another update to push this back to the top of the active list. The site has been having some issues and not everyone may be available to give answers.
Unfortunately, I do not have any advice on your question.

The key info should be stored in the ECU and changing the battery should not affect that or everytime you disconnect a battery you get issues. When you connected your battery, did you have the key in Pos II. I can't recall if this is a requirement on the P2 cars as well as the 99-00 P80's.
Have you tried locking and un-locking the driver's door manually with the key in case the immobilizer is confused?
Do you have a spare ignition key fob? If you do try your other key and see what happens. The key fobs have a chip in them that fails. We had this on our 06 XC70 and I had to replace the transducers and have the keys re-programmed.
Neil.

I would disconnect negative post with the keys out of ignition. Wait 15min. Reconnect negative cable. Open and close car with keyfob several times. Open and close with the key manually as previously suggested above(doubt will help, but will not hurt for sure). If you have 100% previously working spare key-use it to try to start the car after praying to volvo gods(or cursing them). Hope the luck will be in your side. If you have the same issue- read the codes again and see if anything changes. Make a note of the Vida is able to recognize the vincode of your car upon starring the system. Make a note of the codes and try to erase them and start again with the key open/close step. If no luck- read the codes again and try to click and test each component under immobilizer section(left bottom on your photo) and see what car can rea d and what info it is lacking. I would start with looking if car has any keys stored in its memory-if number is 0 then call qualified service(some locksmith nowadays can make not only key, but program key to the car) and ask them to program your keys and let's hope for the best.
My question-anyone was trying to jump start your car prior to battery swap? Cables placed directly posts to posts can lead to electrical nightmare. Were you trying to start with booster box directly to battery posts(same as above). If you have-put a trickle charger on your battery since you most likely need it to accurately diagnose this issue.

The 2003 XC70 should be in P2 forum.
