Hey All,
I have an 06 V70 that won't come out of park sometimes. It started acting up during the colder weather and I thought it may have been a possible sugary drink spill (no evidence but I haven't owned it since new), once the car warmed up it would come out of Park and work fine so I sprayed below the shifter with foaming glass cleaner.
All worked well until a couple of weeks ago but now it's worse, no amount of warming up helps, even if it's 70 degrees out. I can hit the brake pedal and feel a solenoid "clunk" in the shifter and see a black plastic piece underneath the shifter bezel move and return when hitting the brake pedal but it still won't release the shifter out of park.
In the colder weather I replaced the brake light switch with a new one but it didn't help.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I suspect the lockout solenoid at the shifter.

You will need to replace your shifter knob- very easy 5 minute job. Something breaks inside and it will not actuate the release rod to get it out of park. At least that's what it was in my case.

Appreciate the tips everyone.
When I was finally able to remove the key I took off the switch (the part on the left side of the lock cylinder) and used a wax-based bike chain lube to lubricate the interface between the two and opened the shutter of the lock cylinder and lubed that also. The cylinder then turned extremely smooth but the shifter would still hang up sometimes so it was actually two problems.
I then removed the shifter bezel and lubed around the left-side of the shifter (where you can see the white plastic piece moving when pressing on the brake).
So far, so good. Thanks all.
