While replacing the exhaust system on my non-turbo 98 V70, I struggled mightily (MIGHTILY) to get those four nuts off. I finally got three off and had to drill out one broken stud. I did everything to these nuts including Liquid Wrench, lots of heat (repeatedly), an impact gun, cold chisels, and bolt extractor impact sockets.
Once I got everything back together and started the car, I found that there is a big leak now in that braided flex pipe that's part of the exhaust manifold. I'm assuming all the banging and moving side to side for access to the nuts broke some sort of seal in there.
1. How does that flex pipe stuff work?
2. I'm thinking of buying the exhaust manifold kit below. I'm afraid a used manifold (if I can find one) may have a defective flex pipe. Anyone have experience with this part from this source?

The flex pipe probably cracked through at one of the webs. The braided outer sleeve makes finding the crack nearly impossible. You could cut off the flex pipe and weld in a replacement as long as the rest of the manifold isn't super rusty and you pay attention to the indexing. Though if the ProParts manifold is available for substantially cheaper elsewhere, than that is likely the cheaper and quicker fix.
My limited experience with ProParts: their non rubber parts seem to be of decent quality for aftermarket made in China.

That should be fine. All of them age and wear eventually.
When I had my '96 NA, I welded on a new flex flange (was available as a separate piece) .

Make sure you get a block off for the SAS bung if you don’t have that feature (UFO behind the cylinder head)
