(Simple + i * Simple) Key Fob Question 1998 v70

Post by MrAl »

Hello there,

I have not used the key fob in something like four years. Back then it worked fine, and it probably still does I just have to test it tomorrow.

What I was wondering is, if the little internal battery went dead and I take it apart and replace the battery, will it still be "paired" with my Volvo?

Keep in mind it was fine last time I used it. I'm just worried that if I change the battery I might have to do some kind of sequence to get it paired with my actual Volvo again so it works the doors again and all that stuff.

Thanks for any information about this.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Changing the battery will not require repairing.

I found info on this forum that states you just keep clicking the fob to pair, but that can't be right, or anyone can walk up to the car and pair with it. Maybe the ignition has to be on too?

Hi,

What about if the car battery went dead and you took it out by disconnecting it completely, then put a new battery in the car.
Do you need to pair again after that?
I ask because that happened too.

You should not need to pair the fob as mentioned. Otherwise we would all be doing this on a regular basis.

As also mentioned, the same with the fob.

Hi there Neil,

Oh great thanks.
I found out the battery in the fob was dead, 70mv, so I had to order a couple CR2016 cells.
I had CR2032 cells but they are twice as thick and so don't fit in the fob.
Test Sunday or Monday.

Hello again,

Ok got the new batteries today and just tested it a little while ago. It still works, hurray. :)
Have to be a little careful how you put the battery in though, make sure it touches both side contacts first then press down gently.
