850 A/C switch gets hot
When the A/C is on in my 1997 850 (non ECC), the area directly above the switch to turn A/C on and off gets hot - too hot to touch for long. When A/C is off, it's not hot. Also, it blows cold air just fine for a while, then cycles off and blows warm air for a bit, then back to cold. I think the area by the switch getting hot is causing something to disconnect till it cools off. The A/C switch is new - OEM part - earlier this year because the compressor was cycling off and on every 15-20 seconds. The new switch cured that. My local shop says the A/C is fully charged and has no leaks. Any thoughts on what's going on? My wife is worried her beloved old Volvo is going to go up in flames. Thanks!

Have a look at the circuit diagram and see if the switch flows the full compressor current. If it does, it’s probably faulty.
The compressor cutting out is probably a clutch shim issue, separate
