850 heated seat question

Post by jschick »

93 850, heated seats don't work. I took 5 min to look at them and plan to repaire Sat.
I get power and it seems like the thermostat is plugged in. my question is do these thermostats come out some how or do I need to remove the seat? it looks like they are plugged in but can only feel them. I assume the thermostat is in the center of the bottom cushion and has a 2 terminal plug onit, does the whole plug generally bust off or just one terminal? basically is this my problem or possibly a busted wire in the top or bottom element? I have not yet taken a ohm meter yet to it but if it is likely the thermostat I may not have to remove the seat, so for you that have repaired them was your plug totaly busted off or what????

any suggestions helpfull

Seat removal

4 bolts hold it down. They're about 19mm if I recall correctly. Be careful because the nuts are captive and can fall down beneath the floor mount.

Then there's a wire harness or two, and you want to deal with the SIPS (side-impact protection system) correctly so that you don't set it off. You may not have it on a '93. If you do, beneath the plastic shroud that contains the seat controls on the side of the seat you'll see the sensor and a red safety cover to put over it during removal/installation.

The sensor is indeed up inside the bottom cushion. You *may* be able to pull it out to check without taking the seat out. It's a round plastic thing held in place because the foam around it is smaller diameter hold.
