In short term I’d treat the windshield with Rain-X. Not the same as wipers but will make it a lot safer if caught in the rain.

I am not certain if this pertains, but the windshield wipers stopping working on our 2008 XC90 was the first sign of failure of the CEM unit in the car. I had the CEM rebuilt by XEMODEX and it solved the issue.

Good luck.

Depending on the condition of the wipers Rain-X can be just as good if not much much better.
.
