'05 V70 Seat interchange
The driver's seat in my car has seen better days and I have thought to search my local junkyard. Just watched a YouTube video where a guy is restoring an '05 V70R, with the same problem. He intended to use the seats from a wrecked '04 S60 parts car he purchased. On trial, they wouldn't fit. He mentions that they had three different (with same appearance) seats in the middle oughts and that they do not interchange. Does anyone know more about this? If I stick with '05 seats will I be OK? Where do the differences lie, I am thinking I could take a measuring tape to the junkyard.

What specifically is the problem with your seats? If it's just the leather skin I would suggest finding a good donor passenger side skin in the junkyard and using that. They interchange from left to right with the exception of the lumbar knob which you'd have to cut a 1 inch diameter hole for the drivers side. Often the passenger side skin can be found in mint condition. I believe the auto wreckers charged me less than $30 for both the seat and seatback skin last time I bought them. They take 2-3 hours to change.

I had thought about changing just the skins but thought switching entire seat would be faster and easier.

You need to research the control electronics as there were changes in CANBUS speeds from 2004 to 2005. I don’t know if seats were involved, but the two are not compatible

That must be it, the video I watched just said incompatible without explaining why. I assumed the differences being in the mounting points. The video did show the bottoms of the seats and they did differ in constuction. The older one, '04, had different bottom seat padding from the '05 which had foam padding.
