232 Code on Motronic 4.3. 1996 850R

Post by nickm »

Hi all
I know this code has been discussed multiple times.
The car is an Australian 1996 850R auto motronic 4.3.

I'm getting an intermittent 232 code and only that code. Pops up on long runs or waiting in traffic. Under my normal driving the code then clears.
I've smoke tested and checked no leaks, the AMM is good, injectors cleaned new o rings. And the car pulls strong so I'm thinking fuel pressure is not the issue. O2 sensor has been changed but I can't remember when.
In the factory guide, a diag box (Volvo Scan Tool (998-8686)) is listed to see if the code is a lean or rich is there a way to check this without it. I have the 850 OBD2 app, a LED switch and Vol-FCR but can't seem to find this function.

Thanks

Vol-fcr & 850 OBD II app will not be useful to you since ecu is M4.3 and it still produce flash codes.
Only diy made flash code reader will be useful on this application.

When engine is idling the vacuum is at highest level...so ...a weak vacuum connection will always reveal itself in that occasion.

My bet is a small vac leak.
PCV elbow on the left side of the intake? One of the small vac plugs failed at the vac tree on the intake by the throttle body?

Thanks I have a smoke tester.
I will try again.
Yes I have a led and switch rigged up. But I was after the condition lean or rich.

Edit: Okay had a good look....Could it be the one way valve on the evap or the evap solenoid be the issue?

What is the 232 code error for? EVAP errors can certainly be caused by both those items having issues. I have been chasing an Emissions issue on a 98 V70. I have swapped both those parts and it sis not fix them. I need longer access to the car as I suspect it is a pipe on top of the fuel tank that is leaking.

Code 2-3-2 (Long Term Fuel Trim Idling)

Older motronic does not have OBD2 codes.
