Fuel pump immersible hose

Post by ashvolvo »

I will be changing the fuel pump on my 1999 S 70 GLT as a maintenance measure. I am also changing the fuel pump gasket, and want to change the submersible fuel pump hose ( the small high pressure hose). Can some one give me the part number for that hose? or the dimensions so i can get a similar hose from amazon or the local auto store?

Thanks much,

Ashish

I've replaced that hose a couple times on P80 cars like yours. You can use generic, submersible fuel line hose, 5/16 ID. You need about 4 inches for one fuel pump but don't take my word for it, measure it as you don't want to be short. Be sure it is clamped well, I have also had this hose come unclamped before.

I used Gates 27093 and it was not cheap. Currently Amazon shows it for $40/foot (!!), but on eBay it's $12/foot (but is it real or is it counterfeit?). I bought a one foot length in 2017 and it has fixed two fuel pumps so far, I know there is one piece left but not sure if it's long enough to do another pump.

I've changed a lot of those P80 fuel pump gaskets and I will absolutely only buy/use Volvo branded now. Be careful not to let an edge get folded when installing.

I bought submersible fuel hose from a physical store and it was IIRC 20 euros per meter when I rebuilt the fuel pump for my Saab.

I wouldn't buy a thing like this online, never know if you get the real thing. Amazon and Ebay are full of counterfeits.

Any reason why? I would never change an electric fuel pump out if it still was working fine. New autoparts may not last as long as the original. I suppose if you know it's already been replaced with a cheap product, that might be reason enough.

The hose is likely sold by the foot, or possibly in a pre-cut generic length. It'll be a matter of buying the correct diameter and cutting to length. It will be expensive compared to other types of hose. I've never had to buy it, as all electric pumps I've installed were a unitized contraption that came internally plumbed.

I haven’t changed a fuel pump in any of my 4 p80 99s with 250k, 260k, 180k, 105k. I did on my 99 awd at 150k

Thesis: keep fuel level above 1/4 tank

I've also used Gates 27093 after issues with some aftermarket hoses (that came with expensive known brand aftermarket pumps...) and no issues, apart from being expensive !
