I didn't know I was posting breaking news.
I believe the 2001 T5 got HP increase to 247, up from 2000.
That exhaust VVT needs replacing now as well. It measured 0 Ohms across the terminals.
But the recent cam seal replacements stopped the leaks.

Does it make me weird that I could spend a whole day wandering a junkyard?

I usually bring a lunch and I have been known to fall asleep in a car there on a warm day after eating it

when i lived in boston i loved to spend the day at hollands salvage, met a lot of brickheads there.
mens spa day.

south of boston , at robertsons in wareham , back in the day they used to grill burgers and dogs on saturday afternoons in the warmer months. but i think its been stopped 20 years now. I think they ran into some problems and it got ruined .

its still a great yard but i don't know if you are allowed out back anymore. they have a huge operation and i think you tell them what you want and they quote a price and it comes out on a conveyor belt

I'm waiting to see if warming up weather will automagically fix the left passenger door's lock. If not - I'll pass it till another day.

I love procrastination! I'm a certified expert (my wife told me I should be certified anyway)!

Last Friday a buddy asked me to look at his electric Nissan leaf. He and his family use it for running around the city. They had been out in one of recent very gusty days. He was getting out when a gut pulled the door out of his hand and it made an unpleasant noise. The door would then not close with it grinding on the latch. I told him to bring it over and I would take a quick look and depending what I see it may have to go to a body shop for repair.

Door sitting low at the back, and sitting proud at the top with a wind leak when driven, along with the heavy rub on the latch.

5 minutes late he left with the door fixed after some manipulation! I said if the air leak was still there I would have to take a hammer to it.

Saturday brought my friend Tim over at 10.30am to help figure out the rubbing noise from one back wheel and a tendency to bind. I told him to bring a set of parking brake shoes for his 06 V70 T5.

When he bought the car he drove it 1000km home with only one issue, the HU-850 head unit failed. Car ran great. To move the car between provinces and to register it (allegedly to stop stolen cars moving around - yeh.........). He needed the car ASAP so the first place he could get it in for the Out-of-Province inspection was a local Canadian Tire store. The OOP is well know for being a con and money maker for the inspection shop. Many, many examples of fake work identified and you are over a barrel as no pass, no registration.

They told him he needed new pads and rotors all around (total lie) but he had no choice but to pay. I told him to bring it over but he had no time. Anyway shortly after this rubbing issue started. He took it back, they claimed they stripped the back brakes down and found nothing and the issue was still there. It was just as bad if not worse and he was totally frustrated. He called me for advice and I told him to bring it over as mentioned above.

We got the car up on the hoist, stripped the RHR brakes down and on removing the rotor, a brake shoe friction material fell out..........
He now understood why he had to bring the shoes.

We stripped and replaced the brakes on that side and checked over the LHR too. It was fine as was the one shoe from the other side. Only one had failed. I am thinking they did not know how to adjust the parking brakes and hammered the new rotor on and separated the shoe and metal part. The was absolutely no cracking or issues with the other 3 shoes.

Rear brakes serviced, and the the inevitable question about another issue. It is always the case when I help friends, but honestly I don't mind. He then showed me his steering wheel rocked. Yikes! He says it is a known issue for the bolt to come loose. He had tried to get the airbag off but could not shift the 2 bolts. Took me a bit as I don't think I have ever had a need to remove a P2 steering wheel or airbag.

It took me a bit to realize the 2 T30 bolts are at 45 degrees to the top surface of the steering wheel. With the airbag remove, sure enough the bolt was loose. Removed the bolt and refitted with some blue threadlock. Finally torques to spec. All now good!

An enjoyable day, and very satisfying helping out a friend and getting a chance to catch up.
