1992 Volvo ECC (Environmental Concept Car).

Built on the Volvo P80 platform. As you can see many of the lines carried over to the S80. One could say this is the mother of all S80s.

Hybrid electric with a Gas Turbine engine.

So interesting! You can see some of the influences that made it onto production models, like the S-curvy taillights that are simialr to some newer designs.

The wagon is very much a tweaked XC P2. Add a wing, change the bumper covers, paint all the lower cladding grey, add plastic wheelwell arches, add some big wheels. I wonder if this was way before the final P2 wagon was out.

The ECC cad model looks like a P2 S60 coupe.

The last thing is so off the wall and would create enormous drag. Not sure which ideas someone was exploring with this. But they DID add some LeMans-style vertical stabilizers to keep it going straight!

2002, so after. I wouldn't term it a "low effort" effort, but it wasn't exactly what I would term Manhattan Project-like.

P2 wagon, HPT 5-cylinder, the usual stuff... but with a very re-thought/clean-sheet interior. And those wheels, man, those I'd love to find and slap on any P2.

I just now published the VESC writeup: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/volvo ... ncept-car/

Approved by the American Dental Association for orthodonture therapy. And the American Psychiatric Association for ptsd from school from same. What’s the point of being safe if no one will come over to play?

None of these, however can surpass Jaguar from the 2026 IG award for the furthest fall ftom design Grace ….
