I replaced the evaporator pump today on our 07 XC70. The original pump made it to 221k miles. Neil's write-up was a stellar guide.

On this vehicle it was not necessary to remove any rivets to get the heat shield out. Lower the exhaust, then drop the rear-most exhaust hanger bracket and the heat shield slides right out.

Other than the rust on the fasteners for the pump, the job wasn't too bad. I had some Oetiker clmaps bought originally for engine work, Volvo 976561 from FCP Euro, that were perfect size for clamping the hoses onto the new pump.
