well it's not a 2000 v70 xc se but here's a pretty good write-up:

definitely use the crow foot o2 sensor tool, it's much less likely to round off the old o2 sensor than the socket kind with a large slot cut out on thes side to account for the o2 sensor wire. i'd also spray some kind of liquid penetrant on the old o2 sensor and let it sit for a while. you will also need a flathead screwdriver to undo the red retaining clip on the o2 sensor connector(shown in the open position here):

ok, I picked up a couple of O2 sensors and installed them yesterday, the car has 105k on it so I figured even in the absence of a code, I would give it a shot as the existing sensors were original and it probably wouldn't hurt to replace them...it went very smoothly, I bought a crows foot wrench and except for a little difficulty getting to the connectors it was easy, I disconnected the battery during the operation so when I put everything back together the CEL was off, well it came back on just as I got to the autozone to get a new air filter, I asked the guy to check to see if there was a code this time and...NOW I GOT CODES! eight of 'em actually, I thought I was really careful, but something happened...
here are the codes:
P0445
P0448
P0245
P0031
P0037
P1332
P0136
P1655

is there a website that lists volvo codes?

thanks again for everyone's input

I'm sure there is and you can google each of them (these are generic codes), but I'll make it easier on you and upload a code list (some are probably contained, but not all):

thanks made in japan! I appreciate the pdf (again)
so I was reading through the codes and they (almost) all were signal related so I went out to the car to check the fuses....there was a 20amp fuse blown "emissions system" hopefully that was it, and I can figure out what made it pop. I'm a little embarassed that I don't always check fuses first...learning...

glad to hear you got your car sorted to the point of at least getting codes to come up, and now it appears that we are playing a waiting game to see if any of the codes actually come back or not.

Just a word of caution. If you pull the CEL bulb it will throw a P0650 code. I am not sure if Emissions will care but just be carefull.

ok 250 miles and no CEL
Thanks again for everyone's help!

under the heading of "lessons learned" and this is an embarassing lesson to learn:
when installing new O2 sensors, be careful of the routing of the leads...the lead for my rear O2 sensor fouled on the steering column which caused a break, which popped the emissions fuse... again, live and learn.

I hate bringing up old threads BUT, this one deserves it!

i was searching and searching for my 6 CEL codes
a: p0031
b: p0037
c: p0245
d: p0442
e: p0448
f: p1655

these were the codes after i reinstalled the engine and trans in my 99xc70. got the engine and trans in and out in 7hrs running but been trying to find out why the CEL was on for the last 8hrs :D

both a and b were from my dumb butt not correctly seating/plugging in the rear O2 sensor.

c,d,e,f was from me pinching the exhaust cam sensor wire when i reinstalled the spark plug cover. i popped the same 20amp yellow fuse that zprovo did. never thought to check fuses. this one goes into the books for me!

wanted to just let people know if they have these same codes, check your fuses, i know i just did and feel so embarassed about it. yet i have to LOL at myself!!
