starter motor help!!!!

Post by mikeeyuk »

HI All,

this seems to be a continuing saga with my 97 S40 Td. Does anybody know where the starter motor is on these things? the ignition turns on as usual but when you turn the key furhter to start it up, shes completely dead. no turn of the starter, nothing. I took the advice from another thread on here the other day and bought a new battery which I fitted on MOnday and it started straight away. Now 3 days later, ive tried to start it again and nothing. The battery is ful strenght and ive tried connecting a new earth lead to the chassis thinking it mnay have been that. So now I want to try to jump the starter motor from the battery and see if its that... just not sure where the starter is...

any help would be great

Sorry but my diagnostic software does not dip down into your model year car- I believe that Haynes has a book for your car though...might be worth investigating. Or...seems your car is the same as a Mitsubishi Carisma?

It's under the inlet manifold. You should be able to get a jump lead in but it's more difficult if you need to change it as you will probably have to remove the manifold.
