2005 s60 Small compenent is hot and making a buzzing noise.

I have buzzing sound comming from below the air filter consol. Down below the air filter is a small aluminum component connected to a hose or wire slightly smaller than a spray paint can lid. It is making the noise when key is set to position 2 (prior to starting). It is also very hot.

Does anyone know what it is called so I can replace it.

What you describe is the idle air control, but your description puts it in the wrong place- (as far as I can remember)...and it should buzz. I'm wondering what you're talking about- can you get a picture? Also, you never tell us what car and model year (I assume S60 from your signature...but)- that would be most helpful.

Thanks so much for replying. The car is a volvo s60 2.4 T 2005. I have attached a picture (in a zip file). The aluminum cylinder in the center is the component causing the noise. The buzzing is loud and was not occurring before.

Thanks again for your help. I googled idle air control and could not find anything looking similar.

It appears that your car has something that other, earlier Volvo's didn't have- an engine coolant heater. So, I suppose it's suppose to be hot but I have no idea about the buzzing. See if the following instructions show your mystery item:
