Can I use a 16T turbo in place of stock 13G on a 99 V70XC w/

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Can I use a 16T turbo in place of stock 13G on a 99 V70XC w/

Post by 1steven »

:?: My '99 V70 XC AWD with the B5245T engine turbo needs to be replaced at 137K. It's the stock low pressure unit, a 13G model. I read somewhere that I could simply swap out this for either a 15G or 16T and should go with the 16T. Is this correct? Any problems to watch out for? Anything else to check or replace while I'm at it? THANKS! :?:

I read that also. Keep in mind that the larger turbo will take longer to spool up, so your low end won't be as good. But it will flow more cfm, so your maximum hp should be higher.

Yes, you can do that but to get the most out of the larger turbo (spooling up faster, etc.) get a proper tune by allowing someone like IPD to tune your ECU to fit the larger turbo- call Lucky or Scott at IPD ( www.ipdusa.com ) and they can help you! Tell them that Dave (MadeInJapan) recommended you. Btw, some 16T's have an angled flange (that connects to the downpipe) while others are straight...you need to match what your current turbo has in order to keep from fabbing up a new downpipe, so check what you have first before proceeding with a purchase.

THANKS to all who answered. A 16T is going in along with an ECU tune. I'll advise about the results! GREAT FORUM!
