Noise and shake with the Alternator belt

Post by Oreste »

Hi I have a Volvo S40 1.9 turbo 2001, I would like you to help me to identify by means of the picture or video that I am attaching you if this shaking and noise is normal by this spare which I do not know if it is a tensioner of the alternator double sided belt. The shaking and noise intensifies once I turn on the A/C.

Many thanks, best regards

I don't think it's servicable. You can get a new one from your local dealer, www.myswedishparts.com, www.swedishautoparts.com, www.tascafordparts.com, Darrell Waltrip Volvo 1-800-689-0021 ask for Jamie or Don, and maybe www.fcpgroton.com

These are the closest directions I have. After you get the belt off you'll need a socket to remove the center bolt from the tensioner.

Are you sure the tensioner is your problem? It could be that one of the other bearings are going out and that variation in tension on the belt is causing the tensioner to shake back and forth. When the AC is engaged additional load is placed on the belt, which causes the bad bearing to "stick" more, causing additional shake.
