MAF sensor problem?

Hello: I was driving my very solid 1998 S70 on a trip this past weekend, when all of a sudden, the engine began to lose power and stalled. It would restart, but it would only run for 3 to 4 seconds. After letting it sit for 20 minutes, it started and ran for about a minute (rough) then stalled again. No "check engine" light has come on. A shop tells me the fuel pressure checks good. Could this be an MAF problem?

It could be, try to just unplug the MAF and see if it smooths out. Unplugging the MAF will trip the CEL but it is easily reset. Has your engine temperature gauge been behaving normally?

the check engine light may not come on for few ignition turns after the malfunction has occured thus a few more starts or attempted starts should bring up the codes and give you an indication as to what the ecu has seen that has gone outside normal parameters ,i agree unplugging the maf would be a good check,

The temp gauge was normal. This weekend when I get to the car, I'll try unplugging the MAF sensor. Thanks Ozark Lee and mykemac for the info. S.S.

A dealer installed a new MAF sensor for me. That did the trick!
