94 Volvo 850 windshield and roof side strips are chipping

Hey there, I also had the paint flake off my roof side strips. I used a razor to remove all of the paint, then used steel wool and mother aluminum polish to bring them to a shine.
It matches really well with my 17" aluminum rims. The rest of the car is black, even the bumper and door cladding. I'll see is I can get a picture to post here. I like the look personally.

This is what the roof channel and trim strip clips look like.

Thanks again to those who posted this repair. Those trim strips were pretty unsightly, but not worth $400 to replace.

How did you guys take the strips off? I would like to know so that I can do this right without ruining or scratching any paint or ruining the project either. Could you please post pics too, if possible? Thanks

There was another thread on this earlier somewhere. Start at the windshield area. Get your fingernails then fingers under the strip. Carefully lift with even pressure on both sides, taking care not to bend the trim strip. After the first clip pops out, slide your fingers up to the next clip area and again pull up carefully. Continue up along the roof to the back.

They are replaced the same way, just fit the trim strip into the clips and 'pop' them back in.

I grabbed a pair of decent S70 mouldings at the local pick & pull and painted them with bumper black. It comes in a bottle with an applicator that looks like the ones on the shoe polish we used to use. They're a little thicker than the 850 mouldins along the windshield edges. I think that may reduce water runoff to the sides of the windshield. Anyway, they fit fine and look great!

I have a 98 V70 with the same problem. I ordered some flat black tape from TapeWorks.com. The specialize in adhesive films for motorcycles and one can order almost any color in bulk. I have not tackled it yet cause other things are more important currently. I think brakes and clunking sort of have priority....

I used some tape about 5 years ago on my Mark VIII and the stuff is still on, although it does shrink with time. Good people and a nice product.....

Vinyl electrical tape works great after stripping it down and cleaning off the old stuff with Goo Gone, but I had to layer the tape because it wasn't wide enough for the strip. Also, the tape seems to start peeling already. Could it be because I didn't wait for the strip to dry long enough before applying the tape? Also, I found a cool rubber spray paint at Big Lots in the car section. Seemed like it would be a great replacement. Anybody have any comments on this?
