Removing Seat Back
MiJ, I was wondering if you could give me some pointers on what I need to do in order to remove the covering for the drivers side seat back and get in there to try and switch the cables, and later motors if the cable isn't the culprit.

If you want to go thru all that fine but if you buy a seat switch it will work.
(You can buy used switches from www.erievovo.com for 1/4 the price of a new one) but...
FIRST CHECK THE CONNECTION TO THE SWITCH
The seat switches fail all the time but not completely, which leads me to think it's become disconnected

You're right in that it hasn't failed completely. The seat bottom motors all work fine. The lumbar seat motor is the one that isn't working. Sometimes I clearly here it moving/working, other times I don't hear it, but I do here a click evertime I hit the recline button on the seat switch. So from what I can tell it is getting juice the seat just isn't responding. I took the seat switch apart over the weekend and cleaned it and the three seat motors continued to work but recline motor did the same things. I don't think it's the seat switch.

RonniedSaint,
I seem to have the exact same problem with my '95 850 with the lumbar of my power seat. When I try and adjust it, you can hear the motor make an initial effort, but than nothing. This happens consistently. Did you ever figure out how to fix this? I would be happy if I didn't even fix it completely but was able to just reposition the seat back as it is stuck in an uncomfortable position. I am going to look into removing the motor, manually moving the seat back, and reattaching the motor to lock the seat back into position. I ma not sure what issues I will run into in doing this (nor how to most efficiently take the motor off) -- do you have any advice here or for fixing this issues altogether?
Thanks,
Jared

Thank you to Volvo Tech posting from April 16, 2006. I have a 1998 C70 coupe that the drivers' seat stopped working. I checked the connections and the relays under the fuse box cover and all was ok. I was ready to call the dealership to have it checked out when I found the posting. Sure enough I found the micro switch (3/168 per diagram) and a loose spring and was able to close the switch and the seat worked. I still have to find where the one end of the spring goes, but knowing what's wrong is a great releif. Again Thank you.
I have the same problem witth just my drivers seat can anyone tell me where this miccro switch is located. I have a 1998 c70 turbovolvo tech wrote:On the C70 the micro switch (3/168) bracket brakes. If the micro switch is not close, the seat will not move. The Volvo dealer has a up-date for the seat.

What year is your C70? From your profile it would suggest 2008, so you are in the wrong forum section. Your car chasis is a P1 chassis which is the same as the S40/V50 from 2005-
This is a parts diagram from a 2008 C70 which may help. From what I can see there is no microswitch, only a position sensor #15 in the drawing. I don't know how the seats work in that car but maybe this will help:
