Thanks will do. Car started again this morning no problems. It has not thrown any more codes since I reset it.

Car is starting fine and in fact has done so for the last 4 or 5 mornings. It is really starting to irritate me as I would like to get the issue solved. It is my wife's car and I am not thrilled with the relability right now. Any thoughts? No codes have been thrown since I reset about 5 days ago.

Where are you from? (How's the temperature these days?). The problem with my CPS came gradually (once every 2 weeks it would not start). But after a while, it was more like every 2 days and the engine would even stop running while i'm driving. Most of the time, the problem occured when the engine is warm.

Northern VA. We are having 30 degrees at night and 60's during the day. I noticed that the issue seems less relative to temp and more relative to how long the car sits. Started fine this AM.

A little over 2 weeks ago the problem surfaced so I did a full tune up, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter and had no starting issues for a week. The plugs were worn and rotor was toast so I figure they were the issue. Car started great for a week then one week to the day from the tune up it would not start for my wife for 2 mornings in a row. I was able to get it started but it was difficult. I also think if the key is left in the on position for a long period of time it solves the problem.

It is back again. After working perfectly for last 2 months the car would not start. My wife had it in town and eventually got it going. Just pulled the codes and I have both CPS missing and CPS missing intermitently. I am going to try a CPS and see what happens.

I can GUARANTEE you it is the Camshaft Position Sensor.

I had this happen to my Jeep Liberty only 3 weeks ago. The car did crank nice and strong but it would just not fire. After letting it sit for like 15min-1 hour, it would start but then die 10-15mins later. Would also die if idling at a traffic light.

Changed the Camshaft Position Sensor and it all went away. If you take it to the dealer they'll charge you ~$200. You can do it yourself, it is not that difficult and there are a bunch of resources here and on other Volvo sites with detailed instructions and photos.

In the meantime, every time the car does run, it will consume much more gas and produce many more fumes.

Good luck!

Hmm, I should of had them replace mine. I did it myself but paid ~$240 just for the part (or was that $140...?) at the dealer. Unless the CPS is different than the CMP. I'll have to dig out the receipt and report back.

$240 for the CPS? Was that Canadian?

I think dealers sell it for about $130 and can be found quite cheaper online too. Takes ~30 mins to replace.
