96 volvo miles dont count ??

my 96 volvo dont count the miles anymore ,i changed the head in the dash and still dont work , is there a sensor on the tranny? everything else works on the dash but the counter ,,any ideas guys ???

The gears in the odometer are broken, it happens to all of them so chances are the replacement you bought had broken gears as well. It is fairly easy to fix, we have a great writeup in the database.

If you intend to correct the mileage be sure to plug the original cluster into the car. The thread indicates that the mileage is read from the ECU but that is not correct, it is stored in the instrument cluster. If you try to read it from the replacement cluster it will give you the mileage of the car that the donor part came out of.

The hardest part of replacing the odometer gear was getting the cluster out without messing up the dash pad. I would recommend removing the whole dash pad instead of just the drivers side and pulling up on it.

no i just did the half of the dash came out fine just dont lift it so hard ,, thanks guys

i'm about to repalce the gear in my odometer.

i know you can read the actual milage from the odb, but can i make the one in the dash match it?
roll it up sorta?
