Zimbo, with cylinder #1 at TDC, the intake camshaft seats on the lower cylinder head just fine, but the exhaust one sits a bit high at engine rear (because some exhaust valves are supposed to be open at that point in the stroke cycle, so the cams press on the springs). As you gradually tighten the bolts, those valves open up and the exhaust cam seats. You keep an eye on whether the camshafts are rotating. Mine didn't budge.

Yes read that looks good, what I mean is I'd like to know how your car runs now you've done the job its been on an English forum did the same job now their car runs like a bag of nails.

I'm in two minds when mine needs new seals to do it that way or remove the entire top to give it a good clean down.

Oh, it seems to run about the same, just less smelly. I'll keep an eye on oil consumption, leaks, etc.

A few weeks later, it's running just the same (same power, mileage, quiet sound in the engine bay; there's a throatier sound inside the car, but I attribute that to the torque bar bushing replacement), using a lot less oil, not smoking at all. So far so good.

Glad to hear you got it working better! As well as the feeling that you did it yourself...
