Great information here - thanks. I am having the same problem with my daughter's 1994 940 non-turbo wagon 188,000 miles. Three times, after driving for 8-14 miles, it just dies. Little or no coughing or hesitation, just stops, under light acceleration each time. Moderate ambient temperatures between 50 F and 75 F. About as sudden as if someone just turned the key off. Continues to crank, but no start. After 20-25 minute wait, it will start again and run for 5 or 10 minutes. Between the 2nd and 3rd incidents, I've completed all the terminal cleaning listed here, both under the hood and in the passenger kick panel. Cannot locate the two twin relays that are mentioned near the diagnostic readder. Now that your condition is "baaaaaak," please let me know if you find a fix. After the next payday, we'll be taking ours to a local Volvo specialist andI will post any results. Please do the same.
