I've always wanted to mod this to two M6 studs and sS nuts which make it a lot easier to put on.

I've got six zip ties holding mine up... hahaha

I did something similar using simpson strong ties for the steel straps. I chose the strong ties because they're relatively cheap and they are galvanized. I paired them with the self locking hardware as you did. They've been working just fine for 7 years.
