There are very few instances where a high side pressure reading is really necessary to diagnose and repair the system. The only time it would be helpful is if there is some sort of obstruction which would normally occur at the orifice tube.
If the orifice tube is clogged then there are other problems, like the compressor failing internally.
As far as the adapter goes, I think it is the same as the R-12 to R-134A conversion adapter but that is just from looking at the fitting. I've never had a need to try it.

I've always watched both sides to diagnose.
IMO the high side can be revealing. Not always, but I prefer to watch both.
I'm not sure that the thread size is R-12 ... it measures 3/8" peak to peak. Isn't r12 1/4"?
Sorry... it's been a while and I don't have any gauges, fittings, etc anymore for me to go on.
Edit: I think you're right. 3/8" thread size / 3/16" flare = typical r12 high side.

You can monitor the high side pressure three ways
1. VIDA
B. Decent scan tool with Volvo software like AUTEL series
iii. Resistance measurements on the high pressure switch behind the right side headlight on the AC manifold
