Gates Radiator Hose clamps

Well I replaced the original radiator hoses and heater hoses with UROs two years ago and I do have to periodically retighten due to some small leaks here and there. The car is a low mileage shopping basket so I always catch it before there is substantial coolant loss.

Interestingly for the first two years I had zero leaks but now after a retighten they are holding fluids. Again it is a low mileage car.

I've had UROs in the 960 for 2 years and this car does more mileage, around 15K miles/year and have had no leaks. I do check tightness of clamps when going over the car afew times a year.

I guess if I was billing for hoses to clients I wouldn't use the UROs due to callbacks but for the enthusiast who monitors his clamps regularly I don't see why not. They seem to start off very soft when fitted and go harder after a couple of years so I'm guessing clamp tightness would be lower when they're new and tighter as they age. The Gates clamp system would solve this. I hope they land on our shores here.

That one was a URO hose in mine, around 1.5 yrs. VERY annoying - got to the point where tightening just wasn't working anymore.

Bought my heat gun lst week from Harbor Freight (lucky to have one in town). 500+ degrees F on low and 1100+ degrees on high. It was $13.99, normally $20.00 (OK, $19.99).

does anyone know the diameter of the intercooler hose so I can get the right sizes? That's where I have to start. My lower IC hose on the Intercooler is blowing out like a balloon and one day it will pop! I have the new hoses (silicon) and just need to get those Gates clamps.

I don't know if I would use those on the IC hoses. The silicone replacements are incredibly tight as they are.

I am hoping to use these when I replace the radiator hoses. Hopefully I get the right size.

The radiator hoses are right around 2" diameter. I just asked the guy inside to come take a look at the hose and match it up to the clamp.

I'm not even sure they make them big enough for the intercooler hoses - but at $5 each, I'd just use regular clamps - especially if you have the silicone hoses.

I used these on a few street turbo cars, they never leaked. I would suggest not using them if you have to take the hose off for another repair .
or maintenance you know your going to do soon.

I completely forgot about these and think I might pick some up.
