According to the VIN supplied the transmission part number should be 8602050.

Vida states that you have a B5244T3 engine.

The valve body part number matching your transmission is 30713190.

If you go to Tasca parts and search, the online price for the trans is $2, 759 The transmission part number supercedes to 8251406.

Cool, thanx very much for that info!!

So is that then a rebuilt transmission, I assume?

If so and that's basically what the trans parts cost is, then it becomes an issue of how difficult it is to drop the old one and put in the "new"…..is anyone aware of a tutorial or video showing this procedure, or any opinions on doing it myself, assuming a fair amount of experience and good sense, (and audacity)?

Transmissions from Volvo are rebuilt. That's a great write-up for a home DIY without a garage hoist and is doable with a couple of spare weekends.

The box can be dropped separately without the need for engine removal however there are some specialist tools required. A hoist lifting the entire vehicle from underneath would be best however the vehicle COULD just be lifted at the front with a cherry picker to allow clearance. The write up's on Vida. I'll attach it shortly.

Well ok, yeh, if the tranny can be dropped instead of lifting the whole engine and tranny UP and out, then that might make it something I'd do….that write-up that's referenced in this thread is intense, at least for me, and I won't be doing that…..

These instructions are for the XC, but I would think they are largely applicable to your FWD....

These docs are searches from Vida.

I don't think they differ from the other docs supplied above.

So, do you feel that replacing the valve body thing is fairly successful at taking care of most tranny issues, or is it hit and miss, or depends on…? I could describe what's happening with me more thoroughly I guess, tho what I started with is pretty much what it does, does that tend to be what happens when the valve body thing starts to go?

I'm kinda feeling like that whole engine/tranny thing is a bit past me….
