I am still a bit of a devotee of the blue point wrench (a/k/a torch).

Not sure what this means. The nut pretty much falls off the thread once it has a nice crack.

I was curious about that as well. I should add that the offending nut is a cap nut (as is the replacement I have for it). I'm not sure that should have any effect on the approach though.

As long as you crack the whole side of the nut.On old VW suspensions, replacing the front axle, the axle bolts were notorious for cracking incomplete and the untracked part would still hold onto the threads for dear life.

I think you can get a nutcracker on the rear shock nut cleanly. Disclaimer - mine just turned off with a 18 inch breaker nice and easy.

Don't forget to play Tchaicovsky when using a nutcracker for inspiration...

I was using a 30" plumbing pipe home made cheater bar and not getting enough torque to loosen it. Back at it in a bit to put our collective wisdom to the test. . .

Heat that sucker for 2 minutes. The hottest part of the propane torch flame is right the tip of the inner light blue flame core. Heavy leather gloves and try not to smell the burning rubber.

Dont stand the torch back up under the plasic gas tank or you won't be reposting.

So I got out the brand new, never-been-used before Autocraft brand "heavy duty" nut splitter (lifetime warranty) -- anyone see where this is going? . . . and after about three turns with my 19mm socket, both sides of the nut splitter --the ram and wedge -- promptly broke off. In case you hadn't guessed -- Made in China.

Tried heat. No joy since nut is fairly well-rounded by now.

I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.
1998 v70, non turbo, FWD, base model, on the road from April 2nd, 2015 to July 26, 2023.
