If that's a metallic squeak I'm guessing the tensioner bearing. But it might be belt screech from a bearing that's binding. Do you smell burning rubber?

You can usually tell if it's a ps pump by listening while you turn the wheel back and forth at idle. If the noise changes,it's a pretty good indicator of the pump going bad....

But garden hose is best way to isolate noise

OK, Ill try the garden hose trick. No real smell of rubber. If this cost more than $100, probably just going to sell the car.

So I guess it doesnt matter because my Volvo died last night... Timing belt snapped and pistons met valves... Really a bummer since the car is in great condition. I have no plans to fix it. Any suggestions on where to get rid of it? Seems like its to nice to junk. Everything is great on it.

Put an ad in the For sale forum here as a parts car

I guess your noise was timing belt tensioner :-(
That's bad by the way. Whatever it is is going to lock up soon
The tipoff here is the presence of multiple frequencies of noise. The squeaky bearing has eorn to the point of large clearances, knocks, and metal on metal with impending doom
