Best way to troubleshoot P0455 is to buy/build a smoker, and a large aquarium pump to push it through the system. I used incense rather than heated oil. Lots of plans on the 'net. It'll save you much time & frustration. Be sure to plug off the shut-off valve vent after you see/smell smoke coming from it.

Air intake sensor as in the MAF sensor? Now that you mention it, one of the screws holding it onto the air box is stripped out and won't tighten completely. I highly doubt it's an issue, though.

I think I'll finally have to break down and do a smoke test. I'll take a look around.

Yeah, I wouldn't suggest replacing the CAT until you're 110% sure it is necessary. They typically start smelling like rotten eggs all the time before dying. I've replaced one in my time, it was rattling but no smell. The element melted and started acting like a ping pong ball in a hose. It kept having intermittent loss of power - which was due to the restriction.

I'd scan both O2 sensors first so you can see what is going in and what is coming out. A bad downstream sensor could potentially throw that code. How long does it take to set this code?
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.

Anywhere from a couple hours to a couple days. I had the battery disconnected to check my cruise control motor yesterday and it has yet to come back on.
When it comes on, it's always when I stop the car and put it in park.

That's when the drive cycle can complete the test. You might hurry it up turning off the AC for a day

I built a smoker from a cat litter box, couple if harbor freight fittings, clay pot, sage smudge sticks, Tygon tubing.

Haven't even used the A/C all week. Just used it the first time last night after the insane post-rain humidity. The car actually runs much worse with the A/C on.
Thanks for the link, I think I like that design better than some others I've seen. I'm not crazy about risking an explosion using some other methods...

I proudly tried to smoke by E83 with that, failed, took it to my indie, then figured out I was trying to pump smoke through the check valve , the wrong way.

God smites hubris with idiocy when required.

Hahaha, they're called one-way valves for a reason!

Remember the city vs highway occurrence is not giving you good diagnostic info, it's just the nature of the drive cycle. Every time you go over 60, the evap drive cycle is cancelled, so you won't get the code with lots of highway driving.

Smoke is going to be your friend here. I still get a code on the 99 1-2 a year, but the leak is so small smoke isn't showing it. Thank goodness all my other cars use positive pressure evap test systems, they are a lot more robust
