Also, the backs of the LEDs do get pretty hot, though I'm not sure if it's enough to melt the covers or not. That being said, without some airflow, those bulbs may die pretty quickly.

I got the kit from The Retrofit Source and used stock housings with lenses from the C70 (clear).

-Stock/OEM housings
-Morimoto Bi-Xenon Mini H1
-Clear lenses

The C70 clear glass won´t fit the 850ies. Could I use those Morimoto units with the stock glass of the 850/V70 series or would theis create a bad light pattern?

It won't work as well if it's the fluted lens. Here's a writeup from a member on how they did their projector retrofit (almost exactly as mine) but used some tools to sand down and create a clear spot for the projectors on the stock lens.

Go to amazon and they are the Beamtech H7’s... I had some LasFit that just scattered light everywhere. These beamtechs are awesome.

Welp, I went to open the hood today and was going to drill a vent hole in the dust cover however I noticed on the right hand side there were watermarks - probably from a huge puddle I drove through, meaning that water can absolutely get to the back of the led if I drill a hole in it. It was only a couple drops but I don’t know what a couple drops could do to the back of an LED. I have decided to not drill a hole in the covers but the back of these LEDs get extremely hot, is there any danger to have them basically touching the dust cover and it generate so much heat in there? I guess the bulb could fail but I’m thinking more along the lines of melted plastic in the headlight housing?

FMVSS violation - not sure what the fine is. Get an officer on a bad day and these retrofits can become extremely expensive.

The heat will likely cause premature failure. Could be weeks, could be years though, who knows. You could just try it and check it after increasingly longer intervals and see how it does.
