P2 seat information, how to ID, what to look for, and comfort opinion

I think that might have been called the soft leather option here.

Though personally I actually prefer cloth to leather* as a surface to sit on and the velvet used on the half leather interior was really nice on these. I think the new premium wool interior looks brilliant for the same reason.

*At least leather without ventilation built in.

I saw the photos of the new wool interior and I love it! Of course I read it's not for the American market ... unfortunately Volvo for nearly 20 years hasn't offered cloth options here. Which I think is stupid!

The 2019 XC90 comes standard in pleather! Yes that's cheap pleather!!!
Except for the Inscription model which comes standard with Napa Leather and optional with perforated Napa Leather. For example. No cloth or suede. Same with my S80 in 2004, either leather seating area for the standard interior or 100% leather for the option. It does seem Europe gets different options and on these old models smaller engines or diesel. I might have seen the last diesel Volvo in the mid 1980's and it was a 240. I guess it's what selling in the region offered? June

Diesels have never been feasible over on your end since you've actually got air quality requirements rather than just co2 emissions requirements. The latter plus lower fuel costs have been behind diesel popularity here. The 2.9 and the T6 were available but there aren't that many around.

Leather over here was a rather expensive extra so most cars have cloth or cloth/leather interiors of some kind. The S80 used a really plush velvet while the S60/V70 used regular cloth.

Also diesel smells nasty! Most ladies who get new Volvos would object due to the smell alone. I have yet to get into a diesel vehicle that doesn't have a funky smell to the interior. I have noticed the menfolk are not as sensitive to smells. Volvo is a premium brand here. Just my thoughts on the subject. Oh and they are too slow! June

The D5 isn't that slow.

And they really shouldn't smell different inside when driving. If they do it's most likely because the PO brought the smell in with them. Eau de Diesel.

Well June...MDK here. I read your post and I don't think an XC90 will fit an S60. The floor pans are different. If you're satisfied with the overall appearance and mechanical condition of the car... you may want to take it to an upholstery shop and let them replace the lower padding. Although the heated seat is woven into the padding itself. If the leather is good.. maybe a good option...my opinion. MDK

Those are P2 S80 seats not XC90 seats. So will a P2 S80 seat fit into a P2 S60? I believe the OP has a P2 V70 actually so would a P2 S80 seat fit a P2 V70? June

Yes, depending on the years. The 2001-2003 S60/V70 seats have the same structure as the earlier P2 S80 (not sure up to which year), only the leather cover and foam thickness are different, but the rest of the seat is the same, so in theory it can swapped 'plug in' - I'm not sure if the electronics such as the ABS modules would also be compatible computer wise, but the seat structure is the same. Then, from 2004 up the S60/V70 got a new seat structure which I'm not aware if the S80 also got.

Wool will be an option on 2020 XC90s. 2020 xc90 changes The online builder tool still shows 2019 XC90, so... a few more months and you can have it.

The S60/V70 has a different seat from the S80 all model years. The S80 seat is bigger in every direction and noticeable different to sit in. More like an armchair than the slightly sportier seats of the smaller cars. They look different too.

The S70/V70 got new (rumour says cheaper) seats with different mount points for MY05. I'm not sure if the S80 got the same kind of changes, I don't think so since it was replaced earlier and the facelift was quite modest in general.

2005 S80 got a seat frame change which made the seat bottom independent from the back when adjusting the up down for the seat bottom. Dual frame? My sister had a 2005 S80 T6. My 2004 seat completely moves back and all like a normal car seat when adjusting the bottom up and down. Unsure if this is what you are talking about. June
