I’m having trouble pumping gas with my debit card. Seems to be coincident with being thrown out of the supermarket too.

Hi,

What do you mean thrown out of the supermarket?
What happened?
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Environmental regulations require air from the Fuel tank to be filtered by the EVAP canister. If there is a restriction between the fuel tank and the atmosphere vent on the other side of the EVAP canister, displaced air from the fuel tank will try to flow up the filler tube, pushing fuel into the end of the fuel pump nozzle, shutting off the fuel pump.

Take the fuel cap off. Take the tank hose off the EVAP canister. Blow compressed air into the hose and check for air flow at the fuel filler.

Remove the Atmosphere vent hose from the EVAP canister, Blow compressed air into the tank side of the EVAP canister, check for air flow through the EVAP canister.

You do not need a lot of air pressure, 20 PSI should do. You can use a air compressor and a regulator, a 12V electric tire inflator or an Air bubble.

Quick and dirty test: Pull the tank hose off the EVAP canister. Pump some fuel into the gas tank. If the pump still keeps kicking off the problem is between the EVAP canister and the filler tube. If the fueling goes as expected, the problem is after the tank hose to the EVAP canister.

General EVAP system, not Volvo specific.

Apparently you can’t just put your card in and enter numbers in the pin pad, they want you to have money in your account, too. What a bother.

Hi,

Oh thanks very much for that info i think that will help a lot.
One problem i have is finding all these parts so i guess somehow i cam going to have to find the parts like the 'canister' so i can find the hose to the tank i guess.

Thanks again.

OH i see now. Well i have been making the mistake of using my debit card too when with my credit card i get 'rewards' which means i get like 3 percent back on the purchase at the grocery store. I am going to hve to remember to use that instead as the rewards add up over time even though it is just 3 percent.
