99 S70: removing manual shifter knob

Couldn't find the pic with the shaft chucked up in the vice, the cup part number is 3502504

Pretty straightforward once it's on the bench, although I did need the medium-large hammer. Pick the correct size open end wrench for the shaft, put it against the bottom of the offending knob, and wail away.
Shrapnel warning, pieces will fly.

Yessir, although I have a set of the Other that stays in the car.
I used one of those to beat on (see above).

Thank you for the replies. It sounds like I can just twist the boot and pull it down, and that the knob needs to be pried/beaten off the shaft.

Would this method work: Bob's Your Uncle?

It would be great to not take out the mechanism as it's working fine.

I'm not sure if that'll work on that style knob, but it might. I use that method for the -'98 style and it works very well.
