Changing out the Fuel filter

The fuel manifold is the shiny straight tube in the center of xheart's photo. The fuel bleed valve is in the tiny blue cap on the right end of the manifold. The manifold may have plastic cover (Item 4). But you should not need to remove this cover.
But you knew that.

Fuel filter can be a pain to replace due to rust - remove the bracket first and then work with separating fuel hoses.

I threw on a new Mahle fuel filter today. Didn't even bother to raise her. My garage slab is fiber concrete so easy to lay your back on. Don't know if all P2s have it but there's also a schrader release valve on the fuel hose right next to the fuel filter. I just released gas there then changed the filter within 10 minutes.

A whisper of silicone grease on the new filter's "males" helps.
No relief valving on mine.

For others picking up this thread... I just did this on my 2008 and pulled the fuel pump fuse to run the car dead and relieve pressure. To my surprise there was a Schrader valve at the fuel filter to drain the remaining fuel out into my drain pan, pretty handy. Don't recall having that on my 2002.

Feels like I picked up 20 horsepower after the filter change.
