How about sealing the crack with high heat silicone. Almost 2 years sealing and protecting a plastic intake air baffle box which is above the exhaust manifold on an 03 GS300 . The box had split in two due to heat.

(EDIT: Spreads very well, tacks pretty fast and dries tough but rubbery.)

That sounds even like a better idea than duct tape.
