One more oil pressure related thing to remember. There's a plastic pressure relief valve inside the oil pump, it can catch dirt suspended in oil (the pump itself sits before the oil filter) and refuse to close properly. Oil pressure loss can be negligible when the car is moving, however while idling the pressure is very low already, so loosing even a few PSIs can be catastrophic. I would recommend taking the pump out, disassembling and cleaning every 200k or so.

My pump had a couple of scratches on that plastic part, nothing too serious to warrant a pump replacement, which otherwise was good and had very little wear.

rhe oil pan seems doable

the oil pump seems intimidating.

yes i was getting the super scary red message.

i have only had that BRIEFLY... during some "spirited" cornering sustained side force G..and about a quart or 2 low...it was a flicker.

this was on solidly bright red. so i stopped expecting a huge leak

nothing.

tried again it was gone...fine for a mile. stop. fine for a mile. stop. i inched home the 3.miles.

Do at least one oil and filter change. If the light or warning message comes on again, drop the pan.

welp ....i finally finished the oil pan...and it WORKED.

its been a glacial pace. but the orings and professional cleaning of the pan at an automotive machine shop seems to have fixed.the low oil pressure

so thank you everybody!

total cost was 20 for cleaning plus the oring kit and anaerobic sealant.

the dealer wanted 2500 to do it
